Weldon Barber Seattle and Spokane help kick-off Movember

Wedon Barber Seattle is thrilled to have had the opportunity to participate in “Movember,” a joint effort by the Prostate Cancer Foundation and Lance Armstrong’s “Live "Movember" kick-offStrong” charities.  The goal of “Movember” is to raise money and awareness for prostate cancer.

It’s estimated that one in 6 American Men will get Prostate Cancer in their lifetime.  In fact, it is one of the major causes of mortality in US men, second only to lung cancer. Because of these startleing statistics, we are proud to be the Seattle barber to get this fundraiser going with our generous participants.

Weldon barber Seattle would like to thank all of our “Mo Bros and Mo Sistas” for their efforts.  Let’s support them and make a difference in the battle against prostate cancer.

About The Campaign – Weldon Barber Seattle

During November each year, Movember is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of men’s faces, in the US and around the world. With their Mo’s, these men raise vital funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and other cancers that affect men.

Once registered at www.movember.com, men start Movember 1st clean shaven. For the rest of the month, these selfless and generous men, known as Mo Bros, groom, trim and wax their way into the annals of fine moustachery. Supported by the women in their lives, Mo Sistas, Movember Mo Bros raise funds by seeking out sponsorship for their Mo-growing efforts.

Mo Bros effectively become walking, talking billboards for the 30 days of November. Through their actions and words they raise awareness by prompting private and public conversation around the often ignored issue of men’s health.

At the end of the month, Mo Bros and Mo Sistas celebrate their gallantry and valor by either throwing their own Movember party or attending one of the infamous Gala Partés held around the world by Movember, for Movember.

The Movember Effect: Awareness & Education, Survivorship, Research
The funds raised in the US support prostate cancer and other cancers that affect men. The funds raised are directed to programs run directly by Movember and our men’s health partners, the Prostate Cancer Foundation and LIVESTRONG, the Lance Armstrong Foundation. Together, the three channels work together to ensure that Movember funds are supporting a broad range of innovative, world-class programs in line with our strategic goals in the areas of awareness and education, survivorship and research.

Global Action Plan

Movember – a global movement
Since its humble beginnings in Melbourne Australia, Movember has grown to become a truly global movement inspiring more than 1.1 Million Mo Bros and Mo Sistas to participate with formal campaigns in Australia, New Zealand, the US, Canada, the UK, Finland, the Netherlands, Spain, South Africa and Ireland. In addition, Movember is aware of Mo Bros and Mo Sistas supporting the campaign and men’s health cause across the globe, from Russia to Dubai, Hong Kong to Antarctica, Rio de Janeiro to Mumbai, and everywhere in between.

No matter the country or city, Movember will continue to work to change established habits and attitudes men have about their health, to educate men about the health risks they face, and to act on that knowledge, thereby increasing the chances of early detection, diagnosis and effective treatment.

In 2010, over 64,500 US Mo Bros and Mo Sistas got on board, raising $7.5 million USD.

Look out James Dean – Is the Pompadour back? – Weldon Barber Seattle

barber SeattleWeldon Barber Seattle – Most would agree that James Dean never went out of style.  The aloof, manly rebel made a name for himself with his well-groomed, high piled look. His untimely death only magnified the mysterious appeal of this mysterious legend.  Maybe this can explain why the latest trends, leaning towards 50’s style, are now seeing the re-emergence of the pompadour.

Contrary to popular belief, the Pompadour is not difficult to achieve.  A quality haircut from your stylist at Weldon Barber Seattle, plus the use of some quality products can help you achieve this style.  The basic form of this cut incorporates a shape that is longer on the top-front than in the back. Styling is much easier than many would believe.  The experts at American Crew say that after shampooing and conditioning with quality products such as American Crew Daily Shampoo and condition with American Crew Stimulating Conditioner (available at Weldon Barber Seattle), skip the blow-dryer and towel dry your
hair.  Apply a liberal amount of stiff styling gel such as American Crew Superglue beginning at the root and smoothing it to the ends. Use a comb to spread the gel and pull the hair up at the root and then back. Let your hair dry naturally.

As popular as the traditional pompadour has become, some are opting for an update to this greaser hairstyle.  One of the most stylish ways to alter this look is to shave the sides.  This simple change from the traditional style adds an edge that brings the cut into the 21st century.

barber SeattleWhether opting for the original, or modernizing the look, the pompadour is a style for those who want to make an impression.  It has the ability to resurrect the first “rebel without a cause” or reflect a bold, modern edge.  If you’re interested in exploring this style,
or another new look, the professionals at Weldon Barber Seattle are here to guide you through the process and help you do it right.
Let us help you transform your look and make a bold impression.

This coupon is valid for new guests OR clients who have not visited us in the past six months. Go ahead, treat yourself (1 per person), and while you’re at it treat your guy friends, too (buy multiples as gifts).

Highlights

  • Upscale, modern barber shops
  • Cut includes a hot neck shave
  • Choose from four locations – Downtown Seattle, Kirkland, Issaquah or Mill Creek

You know Groupon, they always have such an engaging description:

“Wild follicles can only be tamed by routinely slicing off their topmost tips, which is where the hair brains reside. Keep free-flowing manes in check with today’s Groupon: for $18, you get the Weldon signature haircut at Weldon Barber (a $36 value). Choose from the following locations: Seattle, Issaquah, Mill Creek, or Kirkland.

Weldon Barber’s bristle brigade caters to men’s grooming needs with thorough haircuts amplified by masculine pampering. The Weldon signature cut begins manly maintenance with a hot face towel, which preps pores for a shave and relaxes facial muscles tense from chewing down trees. A scalp-massaging shampoo salubriously soothes follicular beds before an expert stylist crafts a custom haircut, following specific direction or aesthetic intuition. A hot towel neck shave prevents faces from becoming targets for Velcro darts, and tune-ups wind down with a styling and a brow, ear, and nose trim.

In the waiting room, visitors can wrap mitts around a complimentary beverage before hunkering down in a roomy leather chair and pointing peepers at the pages of a magazine. Catch the news, sports, or news about mascot rebellions on the flat-screen TV until a stylist/barber comes to clean up your disheveled or overly long mop.”

This offer is for July 7th and 8th only – get your Groupon for Weldon Barber Seattle NOW!

Advice from Weldon Barber Seattle About Long Mens Hairstyle

Weldon Barber Seattle has a question:  Is a Long Mens Hairstyle Right For You?

mens hairstyle

Thanks to American Crew for this mens hairstyle picture!

Have you been thinking about wearing your hair longer than you’ve ever worn it before? Or perhaps you’ve been giving some thought to those bygone days when you were bold enough to let your hair brush your shoulders. Whatever is motivating you to let hair grow, there are some important factors you need to consider before taking the plunge and opting for a long mens hairstyle.

Your Personality

Let’s be frank. Men who wear their hair long are not common, making up only two to five percent of the population. And this includes men whose hair is long but doesn’t quite reach their shoulders. Add to that the fact that long hair is often considered feminine. This means you’re going to stand out in the crowd of your brethren who keep their hair shorn.  As a result, you need to be an extremely confident individual to withstand the occasional ribbing, taunting or even physical challenges that you will more than likely receive from time to time.

Your Place of Employment

The second factor that is going to determine whether sporting a long mens hairstyle is feasible for you is your place of employment. Most offices have a dress code, whether spoken or unspoken, and you’ll need to determine if a long mens hairstyle fits in with your particular office’s rules about appearance. In particular, study how successful men in your company dress. If you expect to advance in your career, you may want to mimic the clothes and hairstyles of these individuals. Weldon Barber Seattle – Camouflage Color for Men

According to Weldon Barber Seattle, coloring the gray is NOT just for women anymore

Weldon Barber SeattleColoring the hair to get rid of the gray is no longer limited to women – men at the Weldon Barber Seattle area locations are doing it too – to maintain a youthful appearance. And they are doing it in ever-increasing numbers.

Hair coloring used to be viewed as the province of women. A woman with graying hair was and continues to be viewed as old and past her prime. A gray-haired man, on the other hand, is often perceived by society as distinguished-looking. And while men have been coloring their hair to get rid of the gray for some time now, it’s been a tightly-held secret.

That’s changing today. More and more men are not only coloring their hair to hide the gray at the Weldon Barber Seattle area locations, they aren’t ashamed to admit it. Here are two reasons that explain this rapidly growing trend.

To Look As Well As Feel Younger

Men of the Baby Boomer generation are not only living longer, but remaining vitally healthy well into their fifties, sixties, and even seventies. Many of these men have decided that they want their appearance to match the way they feel – healthy, vital, and young. And that means getting rid of the gray hair that is a sure sign of aging. There are others whose hair has turned gray prematurely and, despite the popularity of men like Anderson Cooper, don’t want to be perceived as older than they actually are.
